Also known as Lasiandra they are common in Brisbane suburbs.
They are large shrubs or small trees up to 5 m high with a rounded crown.
The lance-shaped leaves are green, paler underneath and have velvety hairs.
The deep violet or purple flowers can almost cover the leaves.
They also come in pink and white.

A small shrub up to 0.5 or 1 m high with flowers similar to ‘Alstonville’.
Tibouchina ‘Jazzie’ or ‘Carol Lyn’.
Small shrubs 1 to 1.5 m high with 4 cm wide, deep purple flowers.
There is a white spot at the base of the petals.
Tibouchina granulosa ‘Kathleen’.
A cultivar growing as a rounded, dense shrub or a tree up to 8 m high and 4 m wide.
The leaves are oblong or lanceolate.
The 5 cm wide pink or mauve-pink flowers cover the tree.
Tibouchina mutabilis ‘Noelene’.
Small trees up to 6 m high covered in masses of flowers.
The flowers are white but darken to pink or mauve-pink.
Tibouchina ‘Peace Baby’ is a small shrub with white flowers that have pink stamens.
