Microporus

Microporus sp.

Basidiomycota > Agaricomycetes > Polyporales > Polyporaceae.
There are 11 species of Microporus.

The earliest fruiting body is a tiny white cushion a few mm across.

The stem, which may or may not be central, develops from this.
The top of the stalk flares and the funnel shaped cap expands up to 1.5 cm across.

The cap is very thin.
The upper surface has strongly defined concentric circles of brown, yellow and black with a paler margin.
Colours are particularly marked when wet.

The under surface is covered with a white layer of very small pores which extend onto the stem.

Microporus xanthopus.

The Yellow-footed Tinypore is common in the Australian tropics.
A characteristic yellow disc forms at the base of the stem.
