These occurs widely in tropical areas growing on leaf litter and mulch.
They grow singly, or in groups arising from one mycelium.
The gelatinous, white round egg is up to 3 cm in diameter.
The egg sac remains at the base of the stalk as the volva.
The orange to red stalk, up to 15 cm high tapers towards the top.
It has a spongy consistency, is hollow and the surface is pitted.
At the top is a wrinkled, red, conical or bell-shaped cap up to 4 cm high.
The spore bearing gleba is on the cap which has a hole at its tip.
