There are 4 Aseroe species one of which, Aseroë rubra, is an Australian species.
The mature fruiting body has a white or pinkish stalk up to 10 cm high.
At the base are remnants of the egg sac – the volva.
On top of the stalk is a red disc.
From the disc 6 to 9 pairs of arms radiate out.
Each arm is up to 7 cm long and split at the tips.
The greenish, slimy gleba is on the disc and arms.
