A medium sized bushy shrub up to 1 m high with few prickles.
Dark green leaves have 3 to 5 leaflets.
Stems around 60 cm long hold a solitary flower or occasionally a few.
The fully double cup-shaped flowers, 10 cm across have up to 40 petals.
Petals are deep red (cardinal or ruby red).
They repeat flower during the season.
